A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in width overall consisting of a red bell with a gold scroll arched and inserted through the crown, the ends terminating at opposite sides of the sound bow inscribed KNOW HOW in red letters and all surmounting a black heraldic anvil.
Buff (gold) and scarlet are the colors used for Support. The bell alludes to the present home station of the 223d Support Group at the Bell National Guard Armory in Bell, California and the anvil, a heraldic symbol for support, refers to the basic mission of the organization.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 5 September 1972. It was rescinded on 20 May 1975.
